Sheikha Latifa Honors Winners at Dubai’s 14th Quran Competition for People of Determination

Dubai, 19 May 2026 — Sheikha Latifa bint Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the Zabeel Ladies Club, presided over the closing ceremony of the 14th Dubai Holy Quran Competition for People of Determination, celebrating 90 winners from a record-breaking pool of 700 contestants. The event, held at the Zabeel Ladies Club, underscored the UAE’s commitment to fostering spiritual growth and inclusivity among individuals with disabilities.

The ceremony opened with the UAE national anthem and Quranic recitations, followed by a documentary highlighting the competition’s evolution over the years. Officials including Her Excellency Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, Director General of the Community Development Authority in Dubai, and Thani Juma Berregad, Chairman of the Executive Board of the Dubai Club for People of Determination, attended alongside families and community members.

A Ceremony of Achievement and Gratitude

Raisa Al Falasi, Head of the Organising Committee, delivered remarks thanking Sheikha Roudha bint Ahmed bin Juma Al Maktoum, wife of the late Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, for her ongoing patronage. Al Falasi praised Sheikha Latifa’s presence and the collective efforts of partners, judges, parents, and volunteers in making the 14th edition a success. “This competition is a testament to the determination and dedication of our participants,” Al Falasi said.

Thani Juma Berregad and Al Falasi later presented Sheikha Latifa with a commemorative gift, symbolizing the community’s gratitude for her support.

Recognizing Exceptional Talent

Among the winners, Adam Hamed Adam took home the best voice award, while Noura Rashid Hamed Al Marri won the best female voice award. Youssef Aref Mohammed was honored as the youngest contestant, and Fatima bint Saif Al Saadi received the award for youngest female contestant. These categories highlight the competition’s effort to recognize diverse abilities and ages.

The Dubai Holy Quran Competition for People of Determination, now in its 14th year, provides a platform for participants across the UAE and Gulf region to memorize and reflect on the Quran. The event also aims to promote social integration and showcase the talents of individuals with disabilities—a priority for Dubai’s Community Development Authority.

The Broader Mission of Inclusion

Beyond the awards, the competition reflects a wider national strategy. The UAE has long championed accessibility and empowerment for People of Determination, a term used locally to emphasize ability over disability. Events like this align with the Dubai 2025 Inclusive City initiative, which seeks to remove barriers in education, employment, and community life.

For participants and their families, the ceremony was more than a prize-giving. “It’s about belonging and being seen,” one parent noted afterward. “My child feels valued beyond the label.”

As the 14th edition concludes, organizers are already looking ahead. With growing participation—700 contestants this year, up from previous editions—the competition is poised to expand its reach. Future editions may introduce new categories or partner with more Gulf institutions, further embedding Quranic education into the region’s inclusive framework.

For those inspired to get involved, the Dubai Club for People of Determination offers year-round programs in sports, arts, and religious studies. More information is available through the Community Development Authority’s website.
