Dubai’s Mohammed Bin Rashid Library Launches Diverse December Arts and Education Agenda

The Mohammed Bin Rashid Library (MBRL) in Dubai is set to host an expansive schedule of cultural, artistic, and educational events throughout December 2025, offering the community an integrated platform for learning, recreation, and civic engagement. The programming aims to foster knowledge sharing, celebrate artistic talent, and promote the vital role of volunteerism within society, cementing the library’s status as a regional cultural hub.

Celebrating Volunteerism and Community Engagement

The month’s activities commence with the Expo of Volunteerism and Innovation, timed to coincide with International Volunteer Day. This event is designed to honor the dedication of volunteers and the inventive spirit driving social impact. A key feature will be an art exhibition and live painting session showcasing the talents of volunteer artists, including those who are People of Determination.

The evening will also include a detailed discussion led by Dr. Tareq Al-Saif focusing on the cultural significance of volunteer work and its contribution to building strong, cohesive communities. Further inspiring attendees, a segment titled “My Story with Volunteering” will feature volunteers recounting their personal experiences and the transformative effect of giving back. The celebration will conclude with an awards ceremony recognizing individuals for their exemplary efforts.

Professional Development and Archival Expertise

In collaboration with the National Library and Archives, the MBRL will host a specialized program titled “The Importance of Organising and Managing Records and Archives in Government Organisations.” This series of workshops targets professionals, focusing on critical aspects of information management.

Workshop topics include:

  • Legislation and standards governing archival practices.
  • Effective management of electronic, current, and semi-current records.
  • Technical preservation procedures for historical documentation.
  • Document classification strategies and development of comprehensive archiving policies.

Nurturing Young Talent and Cinematic Artistry

Educational outreach for younger audiences remains a priority. The Code and Play Lab workshop is scheduled to introduce participants to foundational programming concepts through interactive, hands-on activities designed to sharpen logical problem-solving skills and stimulate creativity.

The MBRL’s commitment to global artistry continues with Cineolio’s Cinenights, which will screen a selection of five compelling short films from around the world. The diverse international lineup includes Darkside (Canada, 2022), Memorium (France, 2012), No Goodbye (Germany, 2016), The Porous Body (Director Sofia El Khyari, 2018), and The Repetition for Love (South Korea, 2025). This screening aims to initiate dialogue among filmmakers and audiences, providing a forum for artistic vision and critique.

Furthermore, a special Oud Night will feature performances by talented young Emirati musicians, blending the celebration of local heritage with the recognition of emerging artistic talent.

Honoring Arabic Language and Music

In recognition of World Arabic Language Day, the library will host an iconic figure in Arab music: Marcel Khalife. In a dedicated session, Khalife will discuss how he has adapted renowned classical Arabic poems into music, providing insight into the beauty of classical Arab poetry. His discussion is expected to highlight the profound intersection between music, literature, and contemporary culture.

The Mohammed Bin Rashid Library consistently delivers a robust calendar of events year-round, integrating educational, literary, and artistic experiences to solidify its role as a key institution for knowledge promotion and public inspiration in Dubai.
