Dubai Crown Prince Reviews Jumeirah Beach 1 Upgrade, Emphasizing Urban Wellbeing

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, recently inspected the near-complete Jumeirah Beach 1 development project, underscoring the municipality’s commitment to integrating world-class public infrastructure with enhanced quality of life for residents and visitors. The review, which took place on January 7, 2026, highlighted Dubai Municipality’s flagship initiative, which aims to transform the emirate’s coastline into hyper-modern, accessible, and sustainable urban destinations.

Coastal Upgrade Nears Completion

The comprehensive redevelopment of Jumeirah Beach 1, spanning 1,400 meters of prime waterfront, has reached over 95% completion and is slated to reopen to the public in early February. Overseeing the review, His Highness was accompanied by several key officials, including His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum and His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama, reinforcing the project’s strategic importance to the emirate’s future vision.

Dubai Municipality Director General, H.E. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, briefed the delegation on the multifaceted scope, which encompasses a complete overhaul of design, facilities, and underlying infrastructure. The objective is to cement Dubai’s status as a leading global tourism hub while actively promoting the physical and mental wellbeing of its community.

The renewed space introduces a fully integrated coastal experience, featuring extensive modern recreational and sports facilities, family-centric amenities, and dedicated pathways optimized for cycling, jogging, and walking. This careful design promotes active lifestyles across all demographic segments.

Sheikh Hamdan emphasized that Dubai’s ambitious urban planning continuously raises global standards through people-centered and sustainable projects. “Our vision is to develop a smart, future-ready city with advanced and sustainable infrastructure, world-class public spaces, and beaches that offer integrated services and high-quality experiences,” he stated, adding that public beaches are foundational to Dubai’s urban identity and its dedication to enhancing liveability.

Leveraging Technology and Sustainability

The Jumeirah Beach 1 project aligns directly with strategic government initiatives, including the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033, by expanding open public spaces and promoting healthy cohesion, and the Dubai Urban Master Plan 2040, which prioritizes coastal accessibility and sustainable growth.

The new beach incorporates international-standard service facilities, including clean, accessible restrooms, showers, and changing rooms. Key features of the upgrade include:

  • Smart Infrastructure: Integration of advanced technologies such as wireless internet connectivity, electronic information displays, and smart lockers.
  • Safety Enhancements: Deployment of AI-enabled rescue and monitoring systems linked directly to the Municipality’s central control rooms.
  • Climate Resilience: Engineering works included raising the beach level and replenishing it with 250,000 cubic meters of clean sand to bolster long-term sustainability against rising sea levels.

H.E. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita noted that the development reflects the Municipality’s commitment to delivering projects at the highest international standards, ensuring coastal infrastructure is ready to meet the demands of population and tourism growth.

Economic and Community Benefits

Beyond infrastructure, the project is designed to stimulate economic activity. It introduces more than 15 new investment opportunities covering dining, retail, services, and beach-related activities, further strengthening Dubai’s vital beach tourism ecosystem. Dedicated parking facilities for vehicles and buses, including electric vehicle charging stations, ensure easy access.

This comprehensive approach transforms Jumeirah Beach 1 into an integrated urban destination, reinforcing Dubai Municipality’s vision to enhance community cohesion and support the emirate’s reputation as one of the world’s most desirable places to live, work, and visit. The successful execution of this project sets a new benchmark for developing smart, sustainable, and high-quality public spaces globally.
