  • Fitzpatrick Triumphs in Dubai as McIlroy Clinches Seventh Race to Dubai Crown

The 2025 European Tour season concluded in spectacular fashion at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, where Matt Fitzpatrick secured his third victory at the season finale following a dramatic playoff finish. While Fitzpatrick claimed the tournament title at the Jumeirah Golf Estates on a nail-biting Sunday, Northern Irish powerhouse Rory McIlroy simultaneously sealed a career milestone, capturing his record-extending seventh Race to Dubai title.

The prestigious trophy ceremony, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, celebrated both the champion and the season-long winner, marking a successful close to the competitive calendar. The event drew the top 50 players in the Race to Dubai standings, ensuring high-stakes golf throughout the four-day competition.

Duel in the Desert: Fitzpatrick’s Flawless Finish

England’s Matt Fitzpatrick delivered a near-perfect final round, posting a magnificent 66 to finish the tournament at 18 under par. This stellar performance set the stage for a tense showdown with McIlroy, who kept the pressure mounting until the very last hole.

In a thrilling display of clutch golf, McIlroy birdied the 17th and followed up with an eagle on the 18th hole, forcing a sudden-death playoff against Fitzpatrick. The drama peaked on the first extra hole, however, when McIlroy’s drive found the penalty area. Seizing the opportunity, Fitzpatrick maintained his composure to secure a winning par, clinching his third DP World Tour Championship title, following previous wins in 2016 and 2020.

“This title means a lot to me,” Fitzpatrick reflected after the ceremony. “I didn’t make a single mistake today, and it was one of my best rounds of the year. Ending the season this way is truly special.”

McIlroy Extends Race to Dubai Dominance

Despite the loss in the playoff, the day was momentous for Rory McIlroy. By securing his fourth consecutive, and seventh overall, Race to Dubai crown, he cemented his status as the tour’s most consistent performer. This achievement brings him one title closer to matching the legendary Colin Montgomerie’s record of eight season-long European Tour titles.

The prestigious accolade, which recognizes the best player over the full season, underscores McIlroy’s unrelenting excellence.

“I felt I had a great week. I came close to winning today, but I’m very pleased with how I played,” McIlroy stated, expressing satisfaction with his year-end achievement. “Winning the Race to Dubai again means a great deal, and it’s a reward for the consistency and work throughout the season.”

Setting the Stage for Next Season

The 2025 Championship featured an exceptionally tight leaderboard. After the conclusion of the main event, the bronze position was shared by a group of talented competitors, including Tommy Fleetwood, Ludvig Åberg, Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen, and Laurie Canter, all finishing tied at 17 under par.

For Fitzpatrick, the win capped off a remarkable mid-season resurgence that followed a challenging start to the year. His victory in Dubai is widely regarded as one of the most significant wins on the European Tour calendar, underscoring his resilience and world-class skill.

As the curtain closes on the 2025 season in Dubai, golf enthusiasts are already looking ahead to the next installment. • Emirates Accelerates Expansion with Massive $38 Billion Boeing 777X Order

DUBAI — Emirates, the world’s leading international airline, cemented its future fleet strategy by ordering 65 additional Boeing 777-9 aircraft, valued at $38 billion at list prices, powered by GE 9X engines, announced during the opening day of the Dubai Airshow 2025 on Nov. 17, 2025. This substantial investment significantly expands the carrier’s commitment to the Boeing 777X program, raising its total widebody orderbook with Boeing to 315 aircraft and confirming a long-term economic partnership spanning decades and supporting thousands of high-value manufacturing jobs across the United States.

The mega-order, which includes 130 additional GE9X engines, underscores Emirates’ ambitious expansion goals aligned with Dubai’s projected growth and solidifies its position as the largest global operator of the Boeing 777 series. The latest acquisition builds on an existing fleet plan comprising 270 Boeing 777Xs, 10 Boeing 777 freighters, and 35 Boeing 787s. With deliveries anticipated to commence in the second quarter of 2027, the airline’s aggressive procurement schedule is now projected to extend until 2038.

    Focus on Capacity and Efficiency

The strategic investment is driven by Emirates’ need for larger, more efficient aircraft to navigate projected global air traffic growth and increasing constraints at major international travel hubs. His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, emphasized the importance of maintaining a young and modern fleet equipped with innovative cabin products as a cornerstone of the airline’s strategy.

“Emirates is already the world’s largest Boeing 777 operator, and we are expanding our commitment to the program today with additional orders worth $38 billion,” Sheikh Ahmed said. “This is a long-term commitment and testament to our partnership with Boeing and GE, and to U.S. aerospace.”

A forward-looking aspect of this agreement involves Emirates supporting Boeing’s feasibility study for the proposed 777-10, an even larger variant of the 777X family. Emirates secured options to potentially convert its new 777-9 orders into either the 777-10 or the 777-8 models, signaling a continued preference for maximum capacity airliners. Sheikh Ahmed noted that the airline strongly supports the development of larger capacity aircraft that offer efficient operations.

    Deepening Industry Partnerships

The deal further reinforces the longstanding collaborative relationships between Emirates, Boeing, and GE Aerospace.

Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, expressed honor that Emirates “has once again selected the Boeing 777X to power its future” as the airline refreshes its fleet and expands its global network. Boeing has supported Emirates’ growth for over 40 years, helping the airline connect Dubai to over 140 global destinations across six continents.

The engine order for 130 GE9X units strengthens GE Aerospace’s ties with the carrier, which is already the world’s largest customer for the GE90 and GP7200 engines. Russell Stokes, President & CEO, Commercial Engines & Services for GE Aerospace, called the additional GE9X order a reflection of Emirates’ confidence in their technology’s efficiency and durability.

    Economic Impact Across the U.S.

Beyond connecting global travel, this massive order translates into significant economic development across the United States. The commitment ensures the sustained manufacturing of the 777X airframes and the advanced GE9X engines.

Hundreds of thousands of high-value manufacturing jobs will be supported over the life of these programs in states including Alabama, Kansas, Kentucky, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, and Washington. This long-term order serves as robust backing for the U.S. aerospace industry, injecting essential capital and stability into the supply chain for the next two decades.

Emirates’ decision solidifies its strategy to operate one of the most modern and capable widebody fleets globally, ensuring the airline remains competitive and aligned with Dubai’s status as a pivotal nexus for international travel and commerce.

  • Dubai Accelerates Future Mobility with Aerial Taxis and Vast New Transit Networks

Dubai is rapidly expanding its infrastructure and embracing next-generation mobility, highlighted by the imminent launch of aerial taxi services and significant enhancements to its rail and road networks. His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council, recently reviewed the ambitious progress of these projects, which are central to positioning the emirate as a global leader in urban innovation and liveability.

During a meeting on November 12, 2025, with His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the Crown Prince underscored that sustained investment in infrastructure is vital for the emirate’s future, aligning with the strategic goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33. The projects emphasize a forward-looking strategy focused on sustainability, connectivity, and enhancing the overall quality of life for residents and visitors.

Aerial Taxi Trials Pave Way for 2026 Passenger Service

A key milestone highlighted during the review was the advanced testing phase of Dubai’s Aerial Taxi project. Operational trials, conducted in collaboration with Joby Aviation Inc., recently achieved a significant success with the first crewed flight of the electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.

This fully electric, environmentally friendly aerial vehicle successfully completed a test flight between two distinct desert locations—taking off from Margham and landing at Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC). This achievement confirms the aircraft’s high standards for safety, comfort, and speed. Equipped with six propellers and four independent battery packs, the eVTOL boasts a range of 160 kilometers and a top speed of 320 kilometers per hour, accommodating four passengers alongside the pilot.

The successful flight marks a crucial transition from desert testing to preparing for urban operations. With coordination between the RTA, the General Civil Aviation Authority, and the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, passenger services are slated to commence in 2026.

    Key Infrastructure Development:

To support the launch, Skyports Infrastructure is developing the first dedicated Vertiport near Dubai International Airport (DXB). This four-level facility spans 3,100 square meters, featuring:

    • Two floors dedicated to vehicle parking.
    • Two pads for take-off and landing operations.
    • Fully air-conditioned passenger facilities to ensure comfort.

Additional vertiports are being planned in coordination with major property developers across the emirate.

Expanding Dubai’s Rail and Road Connectivity

The RTA also presented updates on the expansion of Dubai’s integrated public transit system. The planned Blue Line project, scheduled for completion in 2029, will significantly expand the emirate’s rail capabilities. Upon its opening, the total network length will increase from 101 km to 131 km, adding 30 km to the Dubai Metro and Tram lines. The network will grow from 64 to 78 stations, supported by an expansion of the fleet from 140 to 168 trains.

Furthermore, a comprehensive plan to enhance road and transport network integration includes 72 projects set for completion by the end of 2027. These developments involve building 226 km of new roads, 115 bridges and tunnels, and establishing 11 main travel corridors throughout Dubai.

The Future Loop: Transforming Pedestrian Access

Looking beyond motorized transport, the Crown Prince was briefed on The Future Loop Project, a core component of the Dubai Walk Master Plan designed to foster a pedestrian-friendly city year-round. This initiative aims to increase the share of pedestrian and individual mobility from the current 13% to 25% by 2040.

The centerpiece is the iconic Future Loop bridge. This climate-controlled pathway, spanning 2 kilometers and ranging in width from 6 to 15 meters, is being designed to connect major economic hubs, including the Dubai World Trade Centre, the Museum of the Future, Emirates Towers, and the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).

The pathway’s upper level will offer 30,000 square meters of air-conditioned space for all-season use, complemented by an equal amount of open space incorporating shaded structures and landscaping to mitigate ambient temperatures. In total, the Dubai Walk Master Plan envisions developing 3,300 km of new walkways and rehabilitating 2,300 km of existing routes by 2040, alongside the construction of 110 new pedestrian bridges and tunnels. Through these integrated efforts, Dubai is solidifying its reputation as a smart, resilient, and dynamic global city.

His Excellency Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council, commented on the event’s growth, stating that the decision to extend to two days allowed greater accessibility to this “unique combination of fitness, nature, and community,” further highlighting Hatta Dam’s role in showcasing the UAE’s natural assets.

Echoing this sentiment, Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), emphasized the transformative power of fitness experienced outdoors. “Participants didn’t just complete a workout; they created lasting memories with friends and family,” he noted, stressing that large-scale outdoor activations are crucial for fostering healthier, more connected communities.

    Sustaining the 30×30 Momentum

The Dubai Stand Up Paddle event serves as a significant milestone in the DFC 2025 calendar, which continues its mission to inspire 30 minutes of activity for 30 consecutive days. Following this major success, momentum shifts to the upcoming flagship events:

    • Dubai Run: Scheduled for November 23 on Sheikh Zayed Road, this event anticipates participation from hundreds of thousands in the world’s largest free community run.
    • Dubai Yoga: The month concludes with the inaugural Dubai Yoga on November 30 at Zabeel Park, focusing on collective mindfulness and balance.

In addition to these showcases, DFC maintains accessibility through three free 30×30 Fitness Villages, 24 Community Fitness Hubs, and thousands of daily classes city-wide, ensuring continuous opportunities for residents and visitors to complete their fitness challenge.

The Dubai Stand-Up Paddle event was organized by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) and Dubai Sports Council, presented by RTA, and supported by a robust network of government and association partners including Decathlon and Hatta Kayak. Individuals interested in joining the remaining DFC activities can register and find additional resources online.
