Hatta Dam Paddle Event Achieves Record Participation in Dubai Fitness Challenge

The third edition of the Dubai Stand Up Paddle event, presented by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), shattered participation records, drawing over 5,000 fitness enthusiasts to Hatta Dam for an action-packed weekend of aquatic adventure and wellness, reinforcing the Dubai Fitness Challenge’s (DFC) commitment to accessible outdoor activities. Staged against the dramatic backdrop of the Hajar Mountains, the expansion to a two-day format allowed thousands to embrace the 30×30 fitness goal while engaging with nature.

Record Attendance Highlights Outdoor Fitness Appeal

Held in November, the event saw a diverse group of paddlers and kayakers descending upon the picturesque Hatta Dam. This year’s expanded standalone weekend format proved immensely popular, combining core water sports with a full spectrum of family-friendly entertainment and supplementary wellness activities. The gathering underscored the growing demand for integrating fitness with immersive natural experiences within the UAE.

Participants embraced the ‘Find Your Challenge’ ethos, transforming their visit into a holistic wellness retreat. Many attendees complemented their time on the water with explorations of Hatta’s extensive hiking trails and outdoor dining options.

To ensure accessibility for all skill levels, organizers provided comprehensive support, including free training sessions, crucial safety briefings, and all necessary equipment—boards, paddles, and life jackets—making the event navigable for everyone from seasoned experts to absolute novices. Registered individuals also enjoyed complimentary kayaking sessions throughout the weekend.

Wellness and Family Fun Converge

As the sun began to set over the rugged peaks, the energetic atmosphere transitioned into one of tranquility. The event incorporated 30-minute sunset yoga sessions held directly on the water. Guided by professional instructors, these mindful moments offered participants a unique blend of physical unwinding and mental reflection, perfectly counterbalancing the day’s activities.

Beyond the water, a vibrant entertainment zone catered to all ages. Enhanced family amenities solidified the event as a destination experience. Highlights included a dedicated station serving DFC-branded popcorn, a bouncy castle, face painting, and a giant inflatable duck that became a favourite photo opportunity. Food and beverage vendors provided essential refreshments, including ice lollies to combat the daytime heat.

The success of the expanded format was celebrated by organizers. His Excellency Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council, commented on the event’s growth, stating that the decision to extend to two days allowed greater accessibility to this “unique combination of fitness, nature, and community,” further highlighting Hatta Dam’s role in showcasing the UAE’s natural assets.

Echoing this sentiment, Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), emphasized the transformative power of fitness experienced outdoors. “Participants didn’t just complete a workout; they created lasting memories with friends and family,” he noted, stressing that large-scale outdoor activations are crucial for fostering healthier, more connected communities.

Sustaining the 30×30 Momentum

The Dubai Stand Up Paddle event serves as a significant milestone in the DFC 2025 calendar, which continues its mission to inspire 30 minutes of activity for 30 consecutive days. Following this major success, momentum shifts to the upcoming flagship events:

  • Dubai Run: Scheduled for November 23 on Sheikh Zayed Road, this event anticipates participation from hundreds of thousands in the world’s largest free community run.
  • Dubai Yoga: The month concludes with the inaugural Dubai Yoga on November 30 at Zabeel Park, focusing on collective mindfulness and balance.

In addition to these showcases, DFC maintains accessibility through three free 30×30 Fitness Villages, 24 Community Fitness Hubs, and thousands of daily classes city-wide, ensuring continuous opportunities for residents and visitors to complete their fitness challenge.

The Dubai Stand-Up Paddle event was organized by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) and Dubai Sports Council, presented by RTA, and supported by a robust network of government and association partners including Decathlon and Hatta Kayak. Individuals interested in joining the remaining DFC activities can register and find additional resources online.
